- I’ve had this Woman Within Dot Trim Raincoat for 4 years, but they still sell it and I love it. My impression is that you are trim and thin, so they may not have your smaller size but FWIW, this coat is a dream to wear and comes out of the washer and dryer looking brand new. I wore it all over Paris and Europe in 2023 and it still looks like new. Lightweight, never wrinkles, and my husband liked that the bright red made me easy to spot in crowds. :) But they have other colors too. —Deborah Raney
- You didn’t say what activity you are doing in your rain jacket, but if it’s hiking, camping, or mountaineering, here’s the best shell I’ve seen: Arc’teryx Alpha SV. Yes, expensive but you’ll never be wet again and you’ll never buy another shell. —Richard Dooling
- Arc’teryx Beta Jacket. Super expensive but great customer service. —Donna Weber
- I can recommend the coats made by RainSisters. They come in many different designs and colours, and are produced in an ethical and environmentally conscious way. They are based in Latvia, but ship worldwide. A bit pricy, but worth it, in my opinion. They also have very good customer service, who can help with choosing the right size, and offer free returns/exchanges. I’m looking forward to reading the responses, as I live in Belgium, where you can never have too many raincoats 🤣 All the best with your quest! —Marie McGinley
- This Levi's Women's Classic Hooded Rain Parka is my favorite raincoat. It is a great length, folds up easily for travel, comes in all kinds of colors, has a hood, and can be zipped or snapped or both. —Delilah Flaum
- My sister bought me a coat last year for no reason other than she was tired of looking at my
raincoat. It is over thirty years old. My raincoat is London Fog, with its traditional cut. I chose the taupe with the zip-in lining. It has served me well. With its timeless design, aside from a fading coffee stain on the lapel, which I sustained twenty years ago, it still appears to have been made just one year ago. This coat has traveled frequently throughout the country and a few other countries as well. The color goes with everything, and the lining makes it warm enough for snowstorms. I still love it. I still use it. —Terri
- I have a raincoat from London Fog. It has been serving me well for ages. All my outerwear—raincoat, autumn coats, extra long (literally to the floor) real down winter coat—are from London Fog, as well as large pepita umbrella and various travel bags. Their quality and attention to details is exceptional—all items last for decades and still in good use! —Karina
- I wear a London Fog raincoat that belonged to my mother. It’s black with a tan collar and a zip out warm wool lining. My mother wore it for twenty years. When she died, twenty-five years ago I inherited it. It still looks like new. When and if I buy a new raincoat it will be a London Fog. —Ellen Kirschman
- I bought a Stutterheim raincoat and boots (both on sale) before a trip two years ago. Their products are cute but more importantly, I’ve stayed dry as a bone through long walks in both drizzle and downpour. Highly recommend! Thanks for your newsletter! —Kate Forristall
- I love your newsletters and classes and am delighted to offer a raincoat suggestion. It was my first new raincoat in 25 years and is stylish enough for city streets and practical enough with its cinch hood to withstand a downpour. It served me well in Dingle last fall, including a ride on Fungie, often supplemented by a slim fleece jacket underneath for added warmth: North Face Women’s City Breeze Rain Jacket in Medium Grey Heather to hide any travel grime. —Margaret Morse
- I love Lands End outerwear, but usually the Squall insulated parka, which I highly recommend for cold weather. I think all the raincoats I’ve had were from REI. —Abigail Welborn
- If for Sporty Spice activities—I walked 500 miles on The Camino with my functional L.L.Bean Women’s Trail Model Rain Coat, and it was awesome. When I wanted to get in touch with my former punker self, (because I’m tired of feeling 67 and dowdy!) this year I opted for this flattering coat from Rains. There are less “in your face” color ways. It’s super sassy—in that Emma Peel sort of way. —Diana Wilson
- Rains—the absolute best raincoat I have ever owned. And it’s a real raincoat—waterproof, with a hood, and the model I have comes with cuffs that don’t let water in either. Just love it. —Deanne Dale
- I love my Rains raincoat—I bought mine in Liberty’s in London but I think you can get them in the US as my son has one (they may even be a US brand!). Its totally waterproof, even the seams, looks great, feels lovely and you don’t get too hot and sweaty in it. —Sam Parsley
- I have an absolutely ancient Eddie Bauer raincoat. It’s got to be, at least, 20 years old. However, I also have a newer raincoat I bought from Duluth Trading Company. It does its job well. —Amy Denton
- I bought a green floral raincoat and a trench coat with a bird pattern several years ago from Boden. They have nice enough ones currently but the prices have gone up quite a bit. And I prefer the previous versions. If you enjoy quirky patterns and florals and are open to buying on eBay or Poshmark, you can still find their more classic versions. I get complimented all the time when I wear mine. A woman came up to me once in a grocery store when I was wearing my floral raincoat and said, “You must love when it rains because you get to wear that!” I haven’t seen it online in quite awhile so it may be gone but there are cute ones out there. And here’s the trench coat I own. No idea if you’d like something like this or it’s your size but I love mine because I’ve always been fond of birds. —Mary O’Donohue
- Barbour—English brands make the best raincoats (see Alexa Chung) for ‘oh i could go chase some ducks’ to ‘reading in a bookstore on a rainy day’ vibe. Driza-Bone: Australian brand, keeps you “dry as a bone” lol. Classic Aussie co. for that Nicole Kidman in Australia vibe. —Dee Kawai Tang
- The Mernini raincoat is great. I’m not a Canadian so shipping took a while (I think there was a strike on) but it’s a female founded company (that only makes a women’s coat last I checked). It’s long and thoughtfully designed (like magnet closure) and they also make a down vest that fits under it if it’s rainy AND cold. I used to have a Stutterheim that I ultimately sold once I got this coat and it’s great. —Hillary Powers
- I was at a writers’ workshop in Dingle in May, and as soon as it began raining I went downtown to the sports clothing store and bought a fabulous Helly Hansen raincoat. It’s a zip-up, A-line coat with pockets, super comfortable and roomy enough to wear layers beneath. It was $175 euros, but I figured 1) I really needed a raincoat and 2) It will last forever. And I LOVED it. —Kate Cone
